ABOUT OUR ORGANIZATION

Safe Exit Initiative is a survivor-led nonprofit organization where survivors of systems of prostitution and allies collaborate in providing support to victims and survivors of the sex trade - populations that are routinely neglected and marginalized by society. Our mission is to provide quality exit services and supports to prostituted individuals and to end prostitution.

We have developed a comprehensive approach to accomplishing our mission which includes advocacy for social change and justice for survivors, leading legislative initiatives at national, state, and local levels, providing training and consulting services to community-based partners such as medical providers, social services agencies, and law enforcement, and developing and delivering education and outreach services for community members and academic institutions.

OUTREACH AND ADVOCACY DEPARTMENT

SEI has been providing outreach and advocacy services since 2014. We are looking for survivors excited to join a growing organization that provides support services to survivors of the sex trade.

Our Outreach and Advocacy department provides support groups in the community and runs programming for incarcerated survivors, partners with the District Attorney's Office to run a diversion program for individuals charged with prostitution-related offenses, and provides mentoring and case management for survivors of CSE of all ages, both youth and adults.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Community Case Managers will provide case management and mentoring for youth at risk of, and with a history of commercial sexual exploitation, as well as adults.

The Community Case Managers will provide linkage to relevant community-based resources and be responsible for providing warm handoffs to partner organizations and, when necessary, assist survivors in advocating for services and supports they need.

The Community Case Managers will facilitate groups in facilities that are housing survivors and provide support on a continuum regardless of where the youth and adults may be housed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Be a key part of a collaborative team-management approach.
• Collaborate with the Program Director of Harbor and VP of Programs.
• Develop and connect with resources that address both substance use and mental health disorders.
• Maintain weekly individual case management sessions.
• Complete all documentation by end of shift.
• Meet participants individually as needed for referrals.
• Coordinate medical and behavioral services offered through health insurance.
• Identify appropriate resources with survivors, and advocate for services when needed.
• Support individuals in obtaining transportation to appointments.
• Provide leadership, advocacy, and mentorship to survivors, staff, and the community.
• Ability to provide guidance on different pathways to recovery and be accepting of a variety of pathways to recovery, including Medication Assisted Recovery (MAR).
• Attend community events to represent SEI, including tabling events.
• Facilitate Exiting Support groups at other recovery programs.
• Perform any other tasks as assigned by Management.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Lived experience with CSE (preferred).
• One year of experience working with individuals with substance use and/or mental health disorders (preferred).
• A personal interest in, and commitment to, working with individuals who have been impacted by CSE.
• A flexible and positive attitude and belief in the process of surviving and healing from CSE and helping others do so as well.
• Possess cultural sensitivity and adaptability to various personalities and backgrounds.
• Ability to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team.
• Must be proactive, solutions-driven, and able to apply problem-solving techniques to a variety of situations.
• Must be committed to guiding participants in creating their own exit plan, rather than simply dictating outcomes and expectations.
• Ability to recognize that one-size-fits-all approaches to recovery and treatment models do not exist, but that individuals require unique exit plans to achieve their recovery goals.
• Must have an open-minded approach to all forms of recovery, including and especially MAR.
• Must have a basic understanding of the trauma-related impacts of CSE.

NOTE

Hourly Wage: $24–26.50/hour

40 hour work weeks

Up to 75% travel time
