ABOUT OUR ORGANIZATION
Safe Exit Initiative (SEI) is a survivor-led nonprofit organization where survivors of systems of prostitution and allies collaborate to provide support to victims and survivors of the sex trade — populations that are routinely neglected and marginalized by society. Our mission is to provide quality exit services and support to prostituted individuals. We have developed a comprehensive approach to accomplishing our mission, which includes programming; advocacy for social change and justice for survivors; leading legislative initiatives at the national, state, and local levels; providing training and consulting services to community-based partners such as medical providers, social service agencies, and law enforcement; and developing and delivering education and outreach services for community members and academic institutions. 


POSITION SUMMARY 

The Development Associate supports Safe Exit Initiative’s fundraising efforts through grant research and writing, donor stewardship, and corporate sponsorship development. This position identifies prospective funding opportunities, prepares grant proposals and related materials, maintains organized funder and sponsorship pipelines, and supports donor cultivation and engagement activities. Working collaboratively across departments, the Development Associate helps ensure timely, accurate, and compelling submissions while supporting the organization’s broader fundraising and development goals. 


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

Grant Writing & Research 

  • Research and identify prospective foundation, corporate, and community grant opportunities aligned with organizational priorities at the local level. 
  • Help maintain an active pipeline of funding opportunities. 
  • Review funding opportunities, RFPs, NOFOs, and grant guidelines to assess organizational eligibility, alignment, requirements, and competitiveness. 
  • Draft, edit, and submit grant proposals, letters of inquiry, letters of support, applications, reports, and supporting documentation. 
  • Develop clear, compelling, and persuasive proposal narratives tailored to funder priorities and application requirements. 
  • Coordinate with program staff, finance, and leadership to gather program information, budgets, implementation plans, and other materials required for applications. 
  • Support senior writers of high-stakes proposals and competitive RFP responses for government agencies and other major funding opportunities. 
  • Support renewals and reapplication to past award opportunities and future applications. 
  • Request feedback from funders following funding decisions and coordinate follow-up conversations with appropriate organizational staff when beneficial. 
  • Maintain complete and organized records of grant applications, awards, agreements, reports, and related correspondence. 

Donor Relations 

  • Coordinate donor acknowledgments, thank-you letters, and tax acknowledgment letters. 
  • Support donor cultivation and stewardship activities designed to strengthen long-term relationships. 
  • Assist with donor recognition events, cultivation activities, meetings, and other engagement opportunities. 

Event Sponsorship 

  • Research and prospect potential corporate sponsors for fundraising events, donation drives, campaigns, and other organizational initiatives. 
  • Prepare sponsorship applications, proposals, solicitation materials, and supporting documentation. 
  • Coordinate sponsorship outreach and follow-up. 
  • Maintain records of sponsorship prospects, commitments, benefits, deadlines, and deliverables. 


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, English, Nonprofit Management, Public Administration, Business, Marketing, Education, Journalism, or a related field preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience. 
  • Two to four years of professional experience in nonprofit development, fundraising, grant writing, government affairs, public affairs, or related field. 
  • Ability to interpret grant guidelines, RFPs, NOFOs, application requirements, and reporting requirements. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective interaction with donors and partners, including the ability to translate complex information, program models, outcomes data, and technical material into clear, compelling, and accessible language. 
  • Strong editorial judgment with the ability to identify missing information, unnecessary content, unclear messaging, and opportunities to strengthen a narrative. 
  • Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with stakeholders. 
  • Self-motivated, resourceful, and adaptable, with a willingness to take initiative and flexibly support a variety of development and organizational priorities. 
  • Open to feedback and able to incorporate edits and direction effectively. 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Word, Excel, and Outlook. 
  • Commitment to the organization's mission and the communities it serves. 


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Experience researching prospective funders, donors, sponsors, and grant opportunities. 
  • Experience using donor databases, CRM systems, or other development-management platforms preferred. 
  • Experience with sponsorship development and event fundraising. 
  • Experience working in a growing organization. 


NOTE 

Salary range: $53,000 - $60,000, commensurate with experience 

40-hour work week
